City opens up evacuees reception centre

The City of Vernon is now set up to receive evacuees from other areas of the province that have been affected by recent wildfires.

A reception centre, which opens Friday, will be operated by City Emergency Support Services (ESS) and ESS volunteers.

The reception centre will be at the Salvation Army House of Hope located at 3303-32 Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day unitl July 20, with the possibility of extension.

“The City Emergency Program is pleased to be working with The Salvation Army in providing services to the evacuees,” said city communications officer Tanya Laing Gahr.

Evacuees may access food, clothing, lodging and incidentals, which is funded by the Province of B.C.
