The Regional District of North Okanagan says it’s investigating occupancy of a house in the BX.

A party occurred at a residence on Pleasant Valley Road Saturday and it’s alleged that a rental bus was used by some of the individuals at the party and then crashed nearby.

“The regional district’s only involvement is we condemned the building and put in a do not occupy (order),” said Bob Fleming, RDNO chairperson.

“I am not sure where it sits but we’re checking on the status of the building.”

The home was involved in a fire in January 2014, where a female occupant was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns to her hands.

Regional district staff have had discussions with the property owner.

“We are working to achieve compliance,” said David Sewell, chief administrative officer, adding that the district’s only role is building regulations.

“We hope short-term actions will be taken and we’re making sure we don’t have the same problem next year.”

Besides the do not occupy order on the residence, zoning does not permit camping on the property.

The orchard is operated by Kelowna-based Sandher Fruit Packers.

A spokesperson for the company recently stated that while it rents buses to transport workers around the Okanagan, he believes the bus in the accident had not been rented by the company. He also said he didn’t know the people that were on the bus, and that he was trying to find out that information.
