A young girl was safely back on the ground thanks to Vernon firefighters.

Firefighters received a report at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday of a six-year-old stuck in a tree on 28th Avenue.

“She got scared and didn’t want to come down,” said Jack Blair, deputy fire chief.

“She had climbed out on to a branch and it was windy.”

It’s believed the girl may have been about 10 feet off of the ground.

Blair admits such calls to the fire department aren’t very common.

“I can’t think of the last one where we had a person stuck in a tree,” he said.

However, Blair says such situations can be extremely challenging for a child and the adult on the ground.

“Tell them to stay right there and the firefighters will come and take them down,” he said.
