An independent expert has been commissioned to support the review of Spallumcheen’s Hullcar aquifer.

Oliver Brandes, the co-director of the POLIS Project on Ecological Governance at the University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies, will provide advice and oversee aspects of the review.

Brandes will also lead a team that will make recommendations to Environment Minister George Heyman about best practices for the agricultural sector providing clean drinking water.

The terms of reference for the review have been posted to the ministry’s website and the public can provide input until Aug. 31 by going to https://interceptum.com/s/en/HullcarValleyAquifer

Some residents have expressed concern about high levels of nitrate in the aquifer.
