A Vernon man will serve his jail sentence intermittently for his part in a downtown assault.

Court documents show Lucas Allen Slizak, born in 1991, was sentenced in Supreme Court in Vernon Friday to 90 days in jail – to be served intermittently – in connection with an assault in September 2014.

Slizak was sentenced for aggravated assault after a 23-year-old man was punched and kicked in the head in Monashee’s Bar and Grill on Sept. 21, 2014.

The victim was found unconscious and was later transferred to Kelowna General Hospital with serious head injuries. He is continuing to recover from the incident.

RCMP said at the time that indications were Slizak and the victim did not know each other.

Slizak was also sentenced to three years probation, which starts right away, provide a DNA sample, pay more than $6,800 in restitution to the victim along with a victim surcharge of $200.

Upon completion of his jail term, he will also be given a mandatory 10-year firearms prohibition.
