It’s back to the drawing board for water protection in Lake Country.

On Tuesday, council rescinded a bylaw that would have restricted boats and docks in specific areas on Kalamalka Lake.

“We want to take another look at how we deal with boat traffic,” said Mayor James Baker.

The decision to scrap the proposed bylaw came after significant public opposition was received.

Had it proceeded, the bylaw would have stopped owners in the southwest corner of Kalamalka Lake from building new docks while restricting boaters to five kilometres an hour in the zone.

The goal of the bylaw was to prevent sediment from contaminating drinking water supplies.

“It seemed like we were focusing on docks instead of slowing boats down,” said Baker.

Baker says the next step will be open houses to gather information from the public before any further bylaws proceed.
