Lumby still focused on flooding

Flood waters continue to roll through Lumby.

On Tuesday, crews continued to bolster earthworks holding back the three creeks in the community.

“Provincial Forestry workers are in the community to assist in emergency response efforts including brush removal,” said Tom Kadla, chief administrative officer.

“We are waiting for the Disaster Financial Assistance team to arrive to assist the village in providing information to the properties impacted by the evacuation order.”

Twenty-four residences remain under evacuation order until further notice with 80 residences along creeks channels remaining under evacuation alert.

The emergency social services centre is at the White Valley Community Centre and the state of local emergency for the village of Lumby has been extended until Saturday.

Effective Wednesday, Shields Avenue will be closed to all local traffic until further notice to allow for the relocation of materials
