Lumby residents will have a slight hike in taxes this year.

On Monday, council adopted the 2017 budget, which includes a 1.18 per cent tax increase.

“We are still able to do everything we need to do. We have been proactive with reserves,” said Coun. Lori Mindnich.

“We keep getting grants and with that, we can move forward on projects without raising taxes.”

Some residents visited the village office to learn more about the budget.

“They were all positive comments which really hasn’t happened before. You can’t ask for anything more,” said Coun. Julie Pilon.

Ready for spring

Lumby residents are being urged to get the community ready for spring.

An Earth Day cleanup event will be held April 22.

“As a police officer, I get to see all of the garbage littering the area on my drive,” said Gary McLaughlin, who is organizing the cleanup.

Village council will provide supplies, such as garbage bags.
