A longtime volunteer has been named Armstrong Spallumcheen Citizen of the Year.

Sandy McMurray, a 34-year teacher in the North Okanagan-Shuswap school district, will be honoured at the annual Citizen of the Year tea Thursday at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum and Art Gallery.

“Sandy is always the first to volunteer for fundraisers to benefit the community,” said one of McMurray’s nominators.

McMurray has assisted various organizations and programs in Armstrong-Spallumcheen, including Funtastic, where she hand-drew team posters for each team that registered.

She has been a member of the Armstrong Lions Club since 2007, is a fixture at Lions Bingo, and organizes fundraisers such as Mystery Dinner.

McMurray will be honoured during the Canada Day celebrations at Memorial Park July 1.
