FortisBC is alerting customers that an odour of rotten eggs may be on the way.

A spokesperson for the company said higher levels of the odorant mercaptan were found in the natural gas transmission line in Kamloops Thursday, and is working its way through its system toward Vernon.

The spokesperson said the smell of natural gas may be stronger for customers when turning on appliances in their workplace or home.

The problem is usually cleared within 12 hours.

Anybody who smells rotten eggs when turning on their gas is asked to call and report it to FortisBC.
