Plans for expanded marketing of Silver Star aren’t getting a rubber stamp from local politicians.

Some Regional District of North Okanagan board members insist they need more information before deciding if they will support resort association status for Silver Star.

“It’s important to hear both sides of the story,” said Catherine Lord, a Vernon director.

Recently, the task force promoting resort association status appeared before the RDNO board.

A resort association would deliver a range of promotional services, including marketing, planning special events, developing signage and acting as a central booking agency for events and accommodations. A levy would be charged on all properties within the association boundary.

“I’ve received numerous e-mails opposed to the resort association. They purchased property without a fee on title,” said Mike Macnabb, BX-Silver Star director.

“I’m not here to support corporations. I’m here to support the residents.”

Along with property owners and the provincial government, the RDNO board will play a role in whether the association proceeds.

Juliette Cunningham, a Vernon director, says it’s important to have a sense of where property owners stand on both sides of the issue.

“It’s a prettyu big decision and we have to make it,” she said.
