Rising water levels continue to keep North Westside residents and emergency crews on edge.

Sandbagging was done in Valley of the Sun Tuesday night, but it’s not the only subdivision being impacted by flooding.

“It’s all through the North Westside area,” said Jason Satterthwaite, North Westside fire chief.

Fuelling the flooding are surface and groundwater sources.

“Groundwater is coming over banks we haven’t seen before,” said Satterthwaite.

In the Valley of the Sun subdivision, the problems have been around Lambert Creek.

And weather patterns are also proving challenging.

“It won’t take much for the rain to change things further,” said Satterthwaite.

There’s been a quick response to flooding in the North Westside Road area by firefighters.

While Tuesday night is generally set aside for practices, North Westside firefighters spent the evening sandbagging.

“Our guys have been out a lot,” said Satterthwaite.

Sandbags and sand are available at the main North Westside fire hall Station at 514 Udell Road for any property owner that might be concerned about protecting their property. Contact the department to obtain sandbags at 250-545-1195.

Residents wishing to report new flooding should contact 911 and ask for North Westside Fire Rescue.

Information and pamphlets on flood preparedness, including a recommended method for sandbag diking, are available at www.cordemergency.ca.
