The Vernon Curling Club’s parking lot remains dug up.

The lot is currently being replaced and the project is scheduled to wrap up Aug. 23.

“During the period of the construction, the parking lot is closed to all traffic,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, City of Vernon communications officer.

“The curling rink parking lot was badly deteriorated and in need of replacement.”

The completed work includes the replacement of sidewalks on the north end of the Vernon Recreation Complex and of a water main originally installed under the parking lot in 1966.

The next stage of construction includes the replacement of the blacktop surface and substrate, updating a fire hydrant, new storm and sewer lines, new catch basins and a new garbage bin enclosure.

The parking stall layout will be realigned and repainted to increase parking capacity.

Paving is scheduled take place during the third week of August, with cleanup and line painting the following week.

The overall cost to complete the project in one phase, including all consultation fees and contingencies, is about $439,109.

“Work continues on time and on budget,” said Laing Gahr.
