A pedestrian who was struck on Westsyde Road late Monday night has died.

Kamloops Mounties were called to the scene of the accident at Westsyde Road and Eighth Street shortly before midnight.

A 36-year-old man who was struck was taken by ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital, but did not survive.

The 20-year-old driver stayed on scene. Police said witness reports indicate the vehicle may have been speeding.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said Westsyde Road was closed until 4:30 a.m.

The investigation remains active.
