It’s still not known what caused a sinkhole on a Vernon road.

The hole — 1.3 metres in diameter and 0.6 metres deep — was discovered Saturday on 42nd Avenue by Flaman Fitness.

“Excavation around the sink hole will be completed Tuesday to determine what caused the failure,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, the City of Vernon’s communications officer.

“The city expects the road will be repaired and reopened to traffic by the end of the week.”

The portion of 42nd Avenue between 33rd and 32nd streets has been closed since Saturday.
