The City of Vernon will be searching for a new permanent chief financial officer.

Kevin Bertles submitted a letter of retirement to the city, effective Thursday.

Bertles has been with the city for 15 years.

“On behalf of the city, we wish Mr. Bertles success in the next phase of his career,” said Mayor Akbal Mund.

During his time as director of financial services, Bertles and his staff were recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award four years in a row, and the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for six years in a row.

Bertles was also recognized by GFOA for leading the budgeting and financial reporting processes.

Debra Law has been appointed as acting director and CFO for the city.
