ALEXANDER WM. CRAIB

Feb. 25, 1920 – May 12, 2006

The family is sad to announce that Alex passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital this past Friday. He is survived by his first wife, Dina; his sons David and William; grandsons Renny, Robin, Austen and Dawson; his brothers and sisters: Margaret, Elsie, Stanley (Anne), Violet (Maurice), Daniel (Maureen), Douglas (Muriel); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Alexander, mother Williamina, brother Thomas, his sister Jean and brothers-in-law Russell and Herbert. Alex was born in Nairn, Scotland, and immigrated with his family to farm in Roblin, Man. in 1925. Alex served his country proudly in the Engineer Corps during the Second World War, along with his father and his brother Thomas, who were both killed in action. Alex met and married Dina Clarke in England, returning to Winnipeg in 1943, where he worked in retail sails until he retired and moved to Vernon. Alex loved to travel and made several trips throughout Canada and to England over the years. His family and friends will fondly remember Alex’s sense of humour and his fondness for children; his generosity and especially his ability to “say it as it is!” We will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Smart along with the staff of Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their care and support of Alex during his illness. A Celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, followed by a Reception in t he Tea Room onsite. Alex wished his ashes to be returned to England with his son, David, to be dispersed at Dieppe, in France at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to express their sympathy may do so by making a donation to Hospice House, 3506-27th Ave., Vernon, V1T 1S4, in memory of Alex. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home. 542-0155
