Ann Lord (nee Carswell)

August 1, 2017

June 24, 1936 – August 1, 2017

It is with deep regret and loving memories that the family announces the death of our much-loved sister and aunt, Ann Lord. Vernon has always been home for Ann, even when she lived elsewhere. She was born in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and died in it. Both times she had great care and the family is thankful for it. She had a happy childhood in Vernon with cousins and many friends. After graduating from Grade 12, she entered the nursing programme at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and became a Registered Nurse. One of the joys in her life was keeping in touch with members of her class and attending reunions. Her hospital nursing career ended abruptly when she saved an overweight patient in distress by turning him over and spraining her back at the same time. Ann was married briefly, but soon separated. She worked a variety of office jobs and eventually returned to Vernon to live with and look after her mother. Ann is remembered by friends and family for her caring, kind, and compassionate nature. She liked nothing better than to sit down with a coffee and a cigarette and have a long chat filled with laughter and wisdom. Ann tried to keep up with the extended family and was the go-to person when we wanted information on a great uncle or a lost cousin. She loved her dogs and always had one or two under her wing. Ann is survived by her two brothers (Kent, Ron) and nieces and nephews (Dana, Mary, Reta, Ron, and Peter) as well as about a dozen grand-nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at All Saints Anglican Church in Vernon, BC at 2 PM a reception will follow, all are invited.
