ARTHUR GAREAU

GAREAU

MR. ARTHUR JOSHUA (ART) GAREAU passed away peacefully in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Monday, September 20th, 2004 at the age of 83 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Hazel, to whom he was married for 53 years, his daughters; Eva, Karen, Shirley, Ann, Violet and Vivian and his sons; Alexander and John. Art’s eldest son, Ron predeceased him in November, 1997. One of Art’s greatest joys were his 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and his brothers, sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the eldest son of 16 children in the family. He lived his life to the fullest. Art worked at many jobs but he was most proud of his 21 years spent in the military. He served during World War II in Canada, France, Germany, Holland and Britain. Art and Hazel have called Vernon their home for the past 18 years. Art is fondly remembered for his voluntary activities – as a Royal Canadian Legion member, President of the Foster Parents Association, Wheels to Meals, Schubert Centre, Bowling with Tots and Elks. He loved anything to do with his hands – tying flies, taxidermy, lapidary, woodturning, carving and carpentry. Art will be remembered as a man of integrity with a wonderful sense of humor. A Celebration Of Art’s Life will be held at Vernon Christian Fellowship, 4506-29th Street, on Friday, September 24th, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Cremation will follow. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Art to the Schubert Centre, 3505-30th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 2E6 or to the B.C. Children’s Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5. (1-250-542-1187),
