Arthur Math Severson, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2007 at the age of 87 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Anne, son Garry (Consie) of Vernon, son Lorne (Gail, daughter Tricia) of Surrey, brother Fred “Whitey” (Betty-Mae) of Victoria, 5 grandchildren, Debra, Randy, Jodi (Brian), Kimberley & Craig, 2 great grandchildren, Lauren & Michael, and many extended family members and close friends. Art was pre-deceased by his mother Clara, father Matt, and brothers Clarence, Edgar and Jack. He was born May 5, 1919 in Vancouver, B.C. Shortly after Art and Anne were married, they entered the commercial fishing industry where they managed fish buying camps all along the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This led them to many places such as Nuchatlitz, Hot Springs Cove, Tofino and Ucluelet. In 1966, Art decided to leave the fish buying industry and move his family to Victoria. There, he bought his first of two commercial trollers, this one called the Sea-Bo. A few years later, he and Anne moved to French Creek, where he purchased the Saturna Rose.
Art fished until 1988, when he and Anne decided to retire to Vernon. They then traveled across Canada with Art’s younger brother Jack and his wife, Betty. This was a once in a lifetime experience and made many memories for them. Art made many lifelong friends in the fishing industry, and remained close with them over the years. There will be a private family service following cremation, as per Arthur’s wishes.
