We are saddened to announce the passing of exploration geologist Brian Weir, BSc.P.Geolg, on December 6, 2007, aged 68 years.
Brian came to Vernon with his wife 7 years ago. He is survived by his loving family: Penny, wife of 46 years, three children, Brenda (Wayne) Sidwell of Vernon, Laurie Weir (and husband Steve Janzen) of Edmonton, and Derek Weir of Vernon. Brian is also survived by his brother, Stuart (Elizabeth) Weir of Kelowna, sisters-in-law Marion Weir of Prince Rupert and Jill (Wolf) Goudriaan of Powell River, BC, and seven grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
The family is extremely grateful to the friends who gathered in Vernon from around British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, as well as for the warm wishes and prayers of those with whom we shared our years in British Columbia, Yellowknife, and throughout the Canadian Shield. The family also thanks the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the Vernon Hospice House, for a warmth and care that mere professionalism could not approach.
The interment for Brian will be held privately by the family. Instead of a funeral or memorial service, the Weir family will hold a celebration of Brian’s life in the spring, when the violets bloom.
After a long struggle with cancer, Brian has put away his toys, and gone in search of an even better coffee shop.
