September 27, 1930 - March 1, 2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cameron Wilson on March 1, 2017 in Vernon, BC.

Cam was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and as a young man, lived in Vancouver and Kamloops where he met his future wife, Dorothy. They were married December 19, 1959.

In 1962, Cam and Dorothy moved to Falkland where Cam was Road Foreman for Highways and Dorothy taught school. They purchased two acres there and Cam cleared the property and built the family home.

Cam was Falkland Community President for many years, working tirelessly on committees to have a community water system and a Fire Hall built. In his early years, he helped build the Curling Rink. He was also involved with the Falkland Stampede, volunteering like many others in town, in whatever capacity was needed.

In 1966, Cam and Dorothy were blessed with a daughter, Michelle. Cam spend many hours teaching Michelle to ride a horse, drive the tractor, and care for the numerous pets they had.

In the 60s and 70s, the family enjoyed summers at the cabin on Okanagan Lake where Cam spent every sunny day hauling Michelle and her friends behind the boat. One day, Cam skied slalom all the way to Kelowna with the family cheering him on.

Cam retired from the Highways in 1987 and when Dorothy retired, they moved into Sandpiper in Vernon in 1992. He continued to do volunteer work on the Strata Council. They are one of the original owners in Sandpiper and have made many wonderful friends there over the years.

Cam took up walking while still in Falkland and continued to do so in Vernon. He won a trip to Las Vegas for walking 656.6 km in 106 days. He decided to take up golfing when he retired and was able to get two hole-in-ones in his golfing career.

Cam and Dorothy had many years of travelling and especially enjoyed cruising. They were excited to have been able to take their grandchildren Sarah and Sean on a cruise to Alaska.

Cam was a kind and generous man, who would readily help anyone when needed. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; daughter Michelle (Guy), granddaughter Sarah and grandson Sean.

The family would like to thank Dr. Fred Dyck for his wonderful care of Cam over the years. Also the nurses on the 6th Floor for their care and compassion. As requested, there will be a private gathering in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
