It is with great sadness that the family of Charles (Chuck) Clifton Hayhurst announces his passing on April 10th, 2017 at the age of 72. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his son Earl (Samaya); his daughter Melissa; his granddaughter Annie; his brothers Doug (Carole) and Ron(Joanne); his sister Edith; and many close friends. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Chuck was predeceased by his father John and his mother Winifred, his brother Ernie (Diane) and his sister Janet. Chuck was born and raised in Vernon B.C. and spent his childhood in the BX area. In his early years, Chuck would help pick asparagus for the family’s business. To this day, the smell of asparagus drove him from the room. As a young child, he joined cadets, excelled at all sports and was a track star. Chuck was very sociable and some of his early playmates became lifelong friends. His love of classic trucks and cars led him to join the Scavenger Car Club when it began in 1960. He was one of the original members and he remained a member until his passing. Chuck got his start in trucking with Standard Oil and finished his driving career 53 years later with Pinnacle Pellet in Armstrong. One of his career highlights was delivering boats to the Arctic Circle with his son. Chuck loved hunting and fishing and all outdoor activities. He put many miles on his ATV exploring the back-country. He and his ‘buddies’ had many stories to share about their excursions. One of his passions was wood working and he would spend hours in his workshop creating bowls and lamps to give to his family and friends. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Scavenger Car Club members and their wives for all of the support and love they have shown over the past few months. A private Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 13th from 11:00 - 4:00. You may contact Melissa at 250-306-6893 for more information.
