CONSTANCE DICK

DICK

CONSTANCE (CONNIE) DICK, born October 12, 1916, in Vernon, BC, passed away March 1, 2004 in White Rock, BC. Youngest child of Rose and William Smalley who emigrated in 1911 from Lincolnshire, England to Canada where they settled in Vernon. Connie and Edward Charles Dick, of her beloved hometown, married in North Vancouver in 1945. Following the birth of their only child, Sherrie, in 1946, they moved to the White Rock area where they resided for many of their 58 years of marriage. Other periods were spent in Vancouver, Delta, Penticton and Richmond. When Ed retired from Woodward’s Stores in 1985, they returned to White Rock. Connie loved learning and music, reading and walking, sewing and baking. She created homes which reflected her domestic skills and appreciation of all things beautiful, including pansies, roses, baby’s breath and sweet peas from Ed’s garden. She cared passionately for animal life, particularly birds and cats. Predeceased by her parents, brothers Randy and Graham and sister Winnie. She will be greatly missed by Ed and Sherrie, sister-in-law Myra Smalley and niece Joan McNab (both of Vernon) and cousin Myra Smalley Thornburg (of Mentor, Ohio). Left with years of happy memories are her dearest friends, Jean Baxter, Sylvia and George Stanworth and Donnie Caverhill. Our gratitude to the staff of Finlay 2 Extended Care, for their care and loving concern during Connie’s last year. You made all our days brighter during these difficult times. Cremation (no service) with interment in the fall at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Vernon. Family and friends will be welcomed at an open house in early June. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation (White Rock), the S.P.C.A. of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

Peace and rest at length have come; All the day’s long toil is past, And her heart is whispering “Home, Home at last”.
