Dale Haberstock was born on August 7, 1958 in Vernon BC and passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2009 at North Okanagan Hospice House.
Dale loved the outdoors and spent his winters skiing at Silver Star Mountain with his ski buddies and his family. He had a kind word for everyone and was a kid at heart, making him popular with his daughters, nieces and nephews. Dale was a water guy and as a diver, he spent many summers underwater at Christina Lake, BC.
Dale battled pancreatic cancer since February 2008. He was a determined guy and he rarely let his illness slow him down. This became evident to us when he was under going chemotherapy at the hospital every morning and coming home after for a quick waterski. Dale was passionate about his daughters, his proudest achievements and continued to set a wonderful example even when his cancer recurred in February 2009.
He will be survived and sorely missed by his ‘girls’, wife Heather and his daughters Brooke and Paige, his parents Herman and Erma, sister Linda Sakamoto (Tim), brothers Don (Tannyce) and Brad, nephews Garreth and Tyler, nieces Amanda and Erin Sakamoto, father and mother-in-law Theo and Margery Berger, brothers-in-law Mark, Paul (Lynda) and Bruce (Fiona) Berger, nephews Bailey, Carter, Chad and Devin Berger and his many friends whose kindness and company will be remembered always… Heather, Brooke and Paige would like to thank Dale’s devoted friend of forty years, Mike Pethick. Mike and his wife Alana supported our entire family in ways we will never forget.
We, Heather, Brooke and Paige, would like to thank the nurses, care staff and volunteers at North Okanagan Hospice House for making Dale’s last few days easier and more peaceful for him and our family. We will remember your kindness always.
Dale lived his life with a positive attitude, he was an amazing, devoted, fun loving husband, dad and friend. His wonderful smile and laugh will forever be etched in our memory along with his easy going, laid back nature, love of life and the kindness that he shared with everyone.
At Dale’s request, he was cremated and a celebration of life will be held on August 6, 2009 at 7:00 pm at Paddle Wheel Park Hall. Those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Dale may do so to the North Okanagan Hospice House Society, 3506-27 Ave, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.
