Maddocks Donald Barclay, 80 years young, climbed the stairs to Heaven on December 20, 2004 at #20 – Lakeshore Place in Balfour, B.C. His wish of departing from his “earth suit” in the Kootenays, from his own bed, and cared for by his wife Nora was granted. Donald is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Nora and his children, son, Douglas Maddocks (Dolores) of Vernon, BC, daughter Cheryl Anderson (Jock) of Port Coquitlam, BC, step-son Darrell Rieger (Monica) Of Sidney, BC, step-daughter Cheryl Ann Berkey of Penticton. Four grandchildren, Kerry Anderson, Bradley Anderson, both of Port Coquitlam, BC, Kyle Maddocks, Jason Maddocks, both of Vernon, BC, his brother Peter Welch of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Donald was predeceased by his parents Ruth and Sidney Maddocks of Victoria, BC. In 1947 Donald graduated from Spartan College in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA with his Aeronautical Engineering Degree. He was employed with CP Air in Edmonton, Alta, and then moved on to spending 40 years of his life employed by (Consolidated Mining and Smelting) changed to Cominco Ltd. He was a true adventurer in that Construction was his forte. He worked in Yellowknife, NWT, Kimberley Iron Plant, Cominco Regina Fertilizer Plant, Cominco’s Potash Plant, Saskatoon Sask., Cominco’s Fording Coal, Cominco Engineering, Trail, BC, and Trail Trade Services, Trail, BC. Donald retired on February 2, 1985. Donald’s favorite saying his later years was “give me my rubber tires and gasoline, that’s all I need.” Donald’s love of life, his family and travel touched the lives of those who knew him and those he met only passing. He was a very private, spiritual man. Donald was in awe of God’s magnificence when he was surrounded by the mountains, lakes, streams, sky, birds and when watching “Mother Nature” God at work. Donald was a very modest man whose acts of kindness to his fellow man are known to only a few but for the many that were on the receiving end. The “Celebration of Donald’s Life” will be held on January 15, 2005 at 11:00 am at Parkview Funeral Home, 1258 Main Street, Penticton, BC with Pastor Allan Braun officiating.
