MRS. DORIS MAY PARKIN (NEE HOMAN) was born on October 8th, 1914 at Talbot, Alberta, the last of eight children born to Nora & Harry Homan. She was raised on a farm at Veteran, Alberta and as a young girl she was a “free spirit” who loved to laugh, sing and have fun. In 1941 she married Alfred George Parkin, who predeceased her in 1993 after 51 years of marriage. Following the Second World War both she and “Parky” took Beauty/Barber training in Edmonton, Alberta and then moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta where they lived for 25 years. Doris sold Real Estate in Wetaskiwin as well as served, at various times, as President of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxillary and as Chairman of Sacred Heart School Board. Her organizational skills and commitment were beyond compare. After spending some time in Red Deer, Alberta, Doris & “Parky” retired to Kelowna, B.C. Doris passed away on July 1st, 2003 at Autumn Manor in Oyama, B.C. at the age of 88 years. She leaves two daughters and one son to celebrate her life but who will sadly miss her; Cherie (Barry) Montgomery of Coldstream, B.C., Patricia (Ralph) Corey of Kelowna, B.C. and John Parkin of Edmonton, Alberta. Doris was an exceptional Grandmother to her three grandsons; Michael, Kelley and Ryan Montgomery. “Nan” was always there to encourage and help out as well as slip them a “few bucks” from time to time. The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgewood Lodge in Princeton, B.C. and Autumn Manor in Oyama, B.C. for their kind care of Doris in her final years. Cremation preceded a Celebration Mass and Reception for Doris which will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 11123 – E.
