Dorothy Hankey

Peggy passed away peacefully at Creekside Landing in Vernon,

BC, on October 13th, 2008, at the age of 93. She is

survived by her brother, Joe Peters; grandchildren; John

Hankey (Liz), Cher Hankey and Robert Humphrey, Jarett

Hankey, Christine Hankey (John), Lee-ann Short (Leroy),

Michael Pascoe; daughters-in-law, Alana Hankey (Gord),

Kathryn Hankey; six great grandchildren and several nieces

and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Andrew

Hankey, daughter Audrey Pascoe, son John Hankey, brother Saxon Peters,

and son-in-law Mike Pascoe.

Peggy was born on July 8, 1915 to Okanagan Landing pioneers, Richard

and Charlotte Peters. In 1936, Peggy married Andrew Hankey. The couple

traveled up the Cariboo and homesteaded there for a number of years.

They then moved to Sugar Lake where they lived and worked and were

involved with Fraser’s Lodge. In 1944, they moved to Lumby on Mabel

Lake Road where they farmed and worked. Later they retired on part of

the property. In 2005, Peggy sold the property and moved to Canterbury

Court in Vernon where she lived independently until July 2008, at which

time she moved to Creekside Landing in Vernon.

Peggy was an excellent cook. She was devoted to her family and friends,

never missing a special occasion. Peggy was a member of the Lumby

Pythian Sisters for over 60 years, and was an active member of St. James

Anglican Church in Lumby.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Philp, Rev. Ferrie, Penny Sault,

Peggy Graham, and the staff at Creekside Landing.

Service will be held at St. James Anglican Church in Lumby on Saturday,

October 18th, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of fl owers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in

memory of Peggy.
