July 2, 1931 – July 10, 2017

On the evening of July 10th, 2017 Edith was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Edith was born in Snowflake, Manitoba to Adolph and Olga Fischbuch. She was born into God’s family through baptism in September 1931. Edith had fond memories of her childhood antics growing up on the farm with her twin brother, Otto; two sisters, Lydia and Martha; and brother, Danny. Edith married Otto Bucholtz and they had three children: Elaine, Dennis, and Linda. Edith was a wonderful mother. She was disciplined and hardworking, yet also funny and enjoyed life and doing things with and for her children. Edith’s husband, Otto, died young. Concerned for this single mom, family and friends arranged for her to meet Ed Asmus from Vernon, BC. In 1969, they were married and moved to Vernon where she raised her family which now included Ed’s daughter, Linda Ann. Edith had a great love of gardening, canning and preserving and was always in the kitchen baking treats for her family. Anyone who ever stopped at her home knew what a great cook and baker she was and you couldn’t leave without enjoying some with her. Edith was devoted to the 3 C’s in her life: Church, Children, Cooking (and Cleaning). From her youth, the Lord and His Word were always dear in her heart. She remembered fondly when the circuit minister came to their home. Afterwards, she and Otto would play church. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and serving in the church in any way she could.

Her children and grandchildren were the joy and delight of her heart right up to her dying day. They remember with fondness her wise and witty guidance and advice, her loving and helping spirit, her curious nature which led her to be an avid reader, especially of Readers Digest (and the sweepstakes). She was always well dressed and quite a collector. Most of all she will be remembered for her spiritual strength and love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She found great joy and peace in playing the organ and reading God’s word. In every way, Edith was a wonderful, loving mother and a source of spiritual guidance and encouragement to all who knew her.

Edith will be dearly missed by her three surviving children: Dennis Bucholtz, Linda VanDillian (Ron Russell), and Linda Ann (Andrew) Stewart; two grandsons: Michael (Robin) Shultz and Wayne Shultz (Michelle Reilly) and daughter, Alyssa; her two sisters: Lydia (Harry) Gysler, and Martha Pine; her brother, Danny (Thelma) Fishbrook; her sister-in-law, Sally Fishbook; and many friends. In the midst of sorrow we find great peace in knowing that by her faith in Jesus Christ Edith is now with her Lord where she joins her twin brother, Otto Fishbook; her husbands: Otto Bucholtz and Ed Asmus; and her daughter, Elaine Shultz.

We will celebrate her eternal life in Christ in a service to be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 21st, 2017 in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Pastor David Reim of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. A reception will follow in the tea room.
