ELIZABETH NELSON

NELSON,Elizabeth (Betty) Peel

Betty Nelson passed away on January 14, 2003, at the Alexander Wing of Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 87 years.

Betty was born July 20, 1915, at Summerland. She was a pharmacist in Summerland and Princeton and operated her own drug store in Keremeos until the mid 1960s when she retired to Vernon. In her later years, at Gateby and at Alexander Wing extended care, although affected by strokes and loss of vision, she remained a well educated, well informed, talkative, cheerful lady.

Betty was predeceased by her brother, Bob, in 2002. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Verna Nelson, formerly of Vernon and now of Surrey; three nephews, Charles (and Marlene) of Surrey, Wayne (and Alora) of Camrose, Alberta, Dennis (and Patti) of Delta; and two great nieces and four great nephews, Jennifer Willes (Edmonton), and Christopher, Matt, Joel, Scott, and Michelle Nelson of Surrey and Delta.

For many kindnesses and help to Betty through the years, her family wishes to thank the Don Weatherill family of Vernon and Coldstream, and the staff, caregivers, and volunteers at Gateby and Alexander Wing. Special thanks is given to CBC AM Radio for providing our bed-ridden, blind, but very bright Aunt Betty with entertainment, news, and stimulating programming through the last two decades. A memorial event will be held this summer at a family gathering in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alexander Wing of Vernon Jubilee Hospital would be appreciated.
