Ena Annie (Ann) Castrucow (nee: Baziw) passed away peacefully at Hospice House on November 6, 2005 at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Ann was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Mike on February 5, 2004. Ann is survived by her loving son Michael (Melanie) and daughter Christine (Eric). She is further survived by her mother Thelma Baziw, brothers Adam (Oksana), John (Liz) and Bill. Ann also leaves sister–in-law Mable (Ron). In addition she leaves many very special nieces, nephews and friends who cherish her.
Ann was born in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on June 16, 1941 and lived in Vernon until she met Mike in 1960. They were married in 1961 and traveled around central British Columbia for Mike’s work. In 1970 they settled in Vernon to raise their family.
Ann worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company for 17 years before retiring in 2003 due to her illness. Ann and Mike enjoyed many hobbies together, including riding their motorcycle, gold panning in the Monashees, gardening and ham radio. Right up until she entered hospital Ann was able to be independent, enjoying spending time in her beautiful yard and being with family, friends and her animals Skye and P-line.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Paddlewheel Park Hall, 7801 Okanagan Landing Road, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers Ann requested that donations be made to Vernon and District Hospice Society at 3506 27 Avenue, Vernon V1T1S4 or ALS Society of BC at 119-1600 West 6th Avenue, Vancouver BC V6J1R3.
