ETHEL MAY GRANT

ETHEL MAY GRANT passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of ninety-nine years. Born Sunday, October 25, 1903, in London, England, Ethel emigrated with her parents to Canada in 1907, settling in the Battleford area. In her younger years she was an accomplished singer and sang to the Canadian troops in Battleford during WWI. In later years she sang at weddings and in church choirs. She attended normal school in Saskatoon and taught in the Battleford area. In 1923 she married Allan Grant. In 1928 Ethel, Allan and their family moved to Sidney on Vancouver Island and then to Dawson Creek in 1937. Allan died in 1954. Ethel moved in 1958 to Chetwynd and worked for several years at the post office. Her last move was to Armstrong in 1970 with her partner, Wilkie smith. Right to the end Ethel was active, played crib and knitted. She is survived by her loving family: four children, Ellen (Jack) Stewart, Richmond; Bob Grant, Victoria; Margaret (John) Close, Armstrong; June (Bob) Matchett, Calgary; three daughters-in-law, Merle Grant and Corky Grant, both of Chetwynd, B.C., Korky Grant, Vernon. Ethel is further survived by twenty-two grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by: husband Allan Grant; partner Wilkie Smith; four sons, Gerald, Farmer (George), Stewart, Jim; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Service of Remembrance will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2003, at Mountain View Funeral Home, Armstrong, with Pastor Arie deVos officiating. Cremation.
