July 2, 1936 – May 2, 2017

The family of Ethelle Patrick is saddened to announce her passing in Vernon, British Columbia after a long battle with cystic fibrosis. Ethelle faced her disease with courage and determination. By living in a home specifically constructed to eliminate air born and other environmental irritants of her disease, managing her diet and enlisting the help of alternative therapies where appropriate, she managed her health on her own terms. Ethelle was born in Calgary, the middle child of five children. She worked as a branch manager for CIBC until her illness made work impossible. A lover of animals, Ethelle developed a special passion for horses. She was committed to the practice of Natural Horsemanship and through this developed a deep bond with her beloved horse, Libby. She also used her knowledge of Natural Horsemanship to help educate others in alternative ways to communicate with the equine friends. Ethelle was instrumental in the conceptualization and development of trails in the Springbank area, and was awarded a special commendation by Rocky View County for her efforts. Ethelle was predeceased by her husband Douglas, her two sisters Meta and Enid and brother Jim. She is survived by her two sons Brad and Trevor Patrick, their wives Ro and Angela, respectively, grandson Tyler and fiancé Kylie, as well as her brother George Campbell. Ethelle will be dearly missed by her family, her dog Charlee, her horse Libby and her many friends, particularly in the Calgary equestrian community. The family would like to thank all of the medical practitioners who helped Ethelle over many years. The staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital is thanked for their help, compassion and support in Ethelle’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Society. A Celebration of Ethelle’s Life will be held openly from 2:00-4:00pm on Saturday, May 20th, 2017 at 616 Hart Place, in Vernon, BC.
