EVELYN BIRD

Evelyn Bird (nee Grambo), well known Manitoba curler and bowler, passed away peacefully on May 4,’04 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital with her husband Frank by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Frank and family members: sons David (Sandi), and Frank; daughters Connie and Linda (Greg). Missing their Grandma and Great-Grandma are Steven (Meeshala), Michelle, Cheryl, Mathew, Josh, Amanda, Justin, Shania, Hudson & Lily. Evy will also be lovingly remembered by brothers Arnold (Marilyn), Cliff (Sharon), Pastor Ken (Noreen) and sister Ellen and brothers-in-law Bob and Arnie plus numerous uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Ev was pre-deceased by her parents Palmer and Connie Grambo, brothers Arvin and Arthur: step-mother Alice: half-sister Ruth; and sisters Mildred and Thelma. Ev was strong in sports, mainly curling and bowling and later in life she loved golfing. She curled on the Mabel Mitchell Team from Brandon that represented Manitoba at the Canadian Women’s Curling Championships in Newfoundland, as well as winning mixed competitions with husband Frank. Ev was a member of the Brandon Curling Club and also the Vernon C.C. and she bowled at Lincoln Lanes in Vernon. Fishing & camping was another love of Ev’s. She often caught lunker salmon on the West Coast while her husband Frank caught baitfish and the bottom. While living in Brandon at SW 8-11-18 she was a master angler catching big pike, walleyes & trout. Ev also like hunting ducks & geese in Manitoba. Ev was a real sports fan. She kept all the stats when Frank was broadcasting baseball and hockey in Alberta & Sask. Ev was born and raised in the Prince Albert area (Northern Light District). She loved to play fastball especially with sister Thelma, on championship teams in Saskatoon. Ev loved to garden. She had a green thumb. Her favorite flowers were roses & mums. Ev was the greatest. She will be sadly missed. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Remington, all the nurses in I.C.U. and 3-East & Re-hab staff for their loving care. Special thanks to Tom in Kelowna Re-hab. A Celebration of Ev’s Life will be held at her home Friday, May 14th at 2 pm (outdoors). For the past 2 years, Ev was a member of the Vernon Stroke Club. She loved the members and the activities and especially conversations with and the loving care from Janine Dahm, co-ordinator. Friends wishing to make a memorial gift in memory of Ev (and in lieu of flowers) may do so in care of Janine Dahm, Vernon Stroke Club, 2021 Highway 6, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8V2.
