FLORENCE MAY

We would like to announce the passing of Dorothy Florence May (Bonnie) on April 15, 2007. Bonnie was born in Toronto in 1928, and spent her early life there. During the war she lied about her age and joined the Women’s Army Corp. She served in Montreal, where she was given the nickname “Bonnie” because young servicemen would sing “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” to her.

After the war she moved to Stratford, Ontario and worked as an entertainment reporter for the Stratford Herald. It was there she met Bill at a dance. They married and have lived and loved ever since. Bonnie stayed home to raise their three boys. She was a devoted and supportive wife and mother, helpful to a fault. She loved her family and lived for them. Bonnie enjoyed reading, cards, playing golf, and travelling to Palm Springs after Bill retired.

Bonnie is survived by her husband Bill, three sons Phil, Scott and Paul (Kathryn), two grandchildren Jillian and Jeffrey, her brother Ken (White Rock) and sister Sandy (Montreal).

A graveside committal service was held for family and friends on Thursday, April 19. For those wishing to honour Bonnie’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be kindly welcomed.
