GEBHARDT (GEB) BUCHSTEIN

MR. GEBHARDT (GEB) BUCHSTEIN passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19th, 2005 in Hospice House. Geb was born in 1932 and emigrated to Canada with his younger brother, Bruno and parents, Daniel and Bertha in 1938. Working in the logging industry in central B.C. and living in the city of Prince George, Geb married Elizabeth Schneider in 1962. Together they raised five children. In 1972 the Buchstein family moved to Vernon, B.C. after Geb accepted a position as Logging Superintendent with Riverside Forest Products. In 1977 Geb left Riverside to pursue a career as a logging contractor. Shortly before the passing of his wife Elizabeth in 1995, Geb retired from the logging business. Geb was a family man extraordinaire. He contributed to his community through 25 years of service as an Auxiliary RCMP Member, both in Prince George and in Vernon and through his tireless contribution to the Halina Seniors’ Centre as a Director, an event volunteer and a dancing fool. Geb enjoyed dancing, gardening, fishing and politics and he will be dearly missed by many. In addition to his many friends, extended family and countless in-laws, Geb is survived by his loving wife Ilene, his brother Bruno, his five children; David, Brenda, Eric, Bruce and Lara, his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Geb’s children would like to extend a very heartfelt note of appreciation to Ilene Buchstein for the unwavering devotion and strength she showed our Dad in his final weeks. She was truly a blessing in our Dad’s life and we thank her for all she’s given. We would also like to thank all of the medical staff and volunteers at Hospice House who helped to make our Dad’s last days comfortable. Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Geb’s Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 23rd, 2005 at 1:30 P.M. with a Reception following in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Geb to Vernon & District Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C V1T 1S4.
