GEORGE DAVIS

George Wesley (Wes) Davis

November 9, 1922 – March 19, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce that Wes Davis passed away suddenly at home on March 19, 2007.

Wes was born in Aldergrove, BC and lived his early years in the Chilliwack area, where he met and married his wife of sixty-four years, Velma Davis (nee Merritt). Wes started logging in the Queen Charlottes at the early age of eighteen. He left logging briefly to serve overseas in Company C of the Westminster Unit, until his discharge in 1945. Wes was awarded the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service award for his service to his country. Upon his return, Wes resumed what was to become a thirty-eight year career in logging, for CANFOR. By the age of thirty, Wes was the superintendent of the Harrison Mills Logging Division. He later transferred to the Inglewood Logging Division on Vancouver Island, where he supervised the Vernon Camp until his retirement in 1977.

A year after retirement, Wes and Velma moved to Vernon, BC to start a new career in the apple industry. For the past thirty years, Wes and Velma have enjoyed working the orchard from Spring to Fall, travelling south to Quartzite, Arizona during the Winter months and in their spare time, enjoying a little fishing, hunting and camping. If there is back road in BC that might have a good fishing lake on it, Wes and Velma have driven it.

Wes will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Velma Margaret Davis (nee Merritt), his children Sharon Drew, (Charles, deceased) of Renton, WA, Monty Davis (Elizabeth Hannah) of Vernon, BC, Dianne McHardy (Richard) of Williams Lake, BC, grandchildren Allison Beauchamp (Mathhieu) of Courtney, BC, Monty Davis Jr. of Vernon, BC, Leanne McHardy of Jasper, AB, Kristen McHardy of Montreal, PQ and his great grandchildren, Jullien and Austin Beauchamp.

Cremation, to be followed by a private family gathering, at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may give a donation in Wes’ memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC, 202 – 3402 27th Ave, Vernon, BC. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the PLEASANT VALLEY FUNERAL HOME (542-4333).
