Gerrard Quinn

Gerrard Hewitt Quinn, born May 20, 1918 in Montreal, passed away with family by his side on February 18, 2007 in Vernon BC. In 1935, during the Depression, seventeen-year-old Gerry crossed the country by hopping boxcars, arriving in Vancouver to join the thousands of unemployed. Enlisting with the Artillery in 1939, he was on the first troop train out of Vancouver. As a radio operator with the 8th Field Regiment, Gerry served in England, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany – he wore his medals proudly. After 30 years with CP Rail in Montreal, he retired in 1978 as Senior Rate Analyst. Gerry and Shirley, his beloved wife of 60 years, have since enjoyed many years traveling, making friends, and finally settling in Armstrong BC. Gerry is survived by Shirley, son Randall (Loretta) of Kelowna, daughter Kathryn (Ian) of Armstrong, grandchildren Daniel of Toronto, Matthew of Vancouver, Ashley of Kelowna, Fraser of London England, sister-in-law June and nephews Roy and Bill, all of Ottawa. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Armstrong Legion at 1 pm. on Friday, February 23, 2007.
