Giuseppe (Joe) Colombina

It is with great sadness that the family of Giuseppe (Joe) Colombina announce his passing on October 2nd 2010 with his family at his side. Joe was born in Valdagno, Vincenza, Italy on February 8th, 1926. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosa Lena; son John (Ruth); daughters Pina (Ron) and Teresa (Tom); grandchildren Laura (Rob), Aaron, Marc, Kathleen (Kye), Tamara (Alvaro), Sarah and Morgan; great-grandchildren Adam and Emily; brother, sisters, sisters-in-law and their families in Italy. Joe excelled in his youth as a professional boxer and served for his country during WWII. Due to economic hardship Joe immigrated to Canada in April 1957 in search of peace and a better life for his family. Education was important to him and Joe was proud to announce that each one of his children and grandchildren attended post-secondary schools. Joe was an outdoors man, enjoying gardening, fishing, hiking and in his early days was an avid mountaineer. Through his grandchildren, Nonno’s humour and activities continued to make him a child at heart. Although his health challenged the activities he enjoyed, Joe persevered and even to this summer planted a beautiful garden. A special thank you to Dr. Gabra and the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the wonderful care given to Joe in his last days. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday October 7th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (3335 Patterson St, Armstrong BC). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian National Institute for the Blind (www.cnib.ca, 247 Lawrence Ave, Kelowna, BC V1Y 6L2) or a charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via email armstrong@pafs.net
