We regret to announce the sudden passing
of Gordon Mitchell Cook (AKA “Dogskin”)
on November 13,2008 in La Paz Mexico.
Gord was born on April 21st 1947 in
Antigonish, Nova Scotia and raised as a
child in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia. His father
was in the military which resulted in the
family living in many different places.
First moving to Debert, Nova Scotia in 1956
and then to Oromocto, New Brunswick in
1957. In 1960 the family packed up and
moved to Hammer, Germany where Gord met
his best friend Frankie. In 1964 he lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he played
in a band with the now famous Randy Bachman from the Guess Who. Winnipeg
was too cold, so ironically he moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1966. He was one of
the original 13 patch members of the Grim Reapers, Motorcycle Club, but settled
down when he met his Wife Wendy. Gord and Wendy moved to Vernon, BC in
1971 where they raised their two children. He opened a Triumph dealership and
Gords Custom Cycle in Vernon in the early 70’s, and in 1991 opened Iron Horse
Metal Crafts. The last few years of Gord’s life he was semi retired, working his
summers at SEC (Saw Mill Equipment Company) in Enderby and spending his
winters in Mexico.
Anyone who knew Gord, was fascinated by his talent in fabricating. His truck
restoration, custom bikes and amazing artistic metal crafts are admired by all.
Always smiling he loved people.
We will miss his boots at the front door, the stories he told and the songs he
sang. Having a passion for riding his Harleys ,he was a free spirit and went
where the wind took him. Gord passed away in a place he loved.
Gord will be greatly missed by his son Dustin Cook (wife Jacquelyn) of Vernon
BC, Daughter Renee Cook of Vernon BC and Grand daughter Gynelle Cook of
Three Hills, Alberta, Brother Owen Cook (Wife Mary Anne ,children Tracey and
Jennifer and grandaughter Velouria) of Lumby BC, brother Mike Cook (wife Inga
son Simion) of Germany, Sister Barb Playfair (husband Alec, Children Jamie and
Steven) of Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia sister Kelly Kaiser (husband Ron, children
Colin and Andrea) of Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia and all of his many good friends
and especially Dawn.
Friends and Family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life for Gord at the
Army Navy in Vernon, Dec.13, 2008 at 1:30pm.
