Harold Callender

CALLENDER

It is with deep sadness that

we announce the passing

of Harold Edward “Cal”

Callender, age 85 years, on

Thursday, July 27, 2006, at

Vernon. He was surrounded

by his family and caring

staff of Vernon Hospice

House. When we think beyond our sadness

and loss, it was an incredible honour to be

with him during his last moments. Cal will

be lovingly remembered by sons Brian (Stella)

of Sherwood Park, Alberta and Jamie (Ruth)

of Vernon; grandchildren Jonathan Callender,

Erin Spankie and Isabelle Callender. Cal

was predeceased by wife Catherine, daughter

Karen, son Joey, brother Russel, sister Queenie

and parents Elmer and Charlotte. Cal was

born and raised in Marsden, Saskatchewan, on

August 10, 1920. He served in WWII and was

overseas from 1939 to 1945. He taught school

in both Saskatchewan and Alberta and was a

principal in Edmonton before retirement. In

1980, he moved to Armstrong from Alberta

and resided there until moving to Vernon a

few years ago. Cal was a deeply devoted and

loving father and grandfather. He was an avid

golfer, enjoyed gardening, reading and carpentry.

A Memorial Service was held 10:30 a.m.,

Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the First Baptist

Church, Armstrong. Pastor Don Reeve of-

fi ciating. Following the service a luncheon will

be served at the Church. Inurnment in family

plot of Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.
