1922-2008

Peacefully in her sleep on January 30th at West Vancouver Care Centre. Predeceased by husband Duncan in 1986 and son Donald in 2005. Hetty is survived by her children

Marcella, Alistair [Janet], Heather, Duncan and daughter-in-law Mary. A loving and generous grandmother to Tara [Mark], Stephanie [Chris], Christina [Matt], Rameses [Amber], Rodney, Kristie, Alexander and step grandaughter Monica [Tony]. Cherished great grandmother to Michael, Christopher, Laura, Thomas, Holly, James, Maddison, Hayden, Kiana and Audrey. A Dutch lady of wit, determination and good cheer , Hetty called many places home; Amsterdam, Holland; Sourabuya, Java; Perth and Melbourne ,Australia and British Borneo. Following immigration in 1947 to Canada, Salmon Arm. B.C., North Vancouver, 108 Mile House, Crofton, Cherryville, Vernon ,Kelowna, and Penticton, spending her last few years in North Vancouver. A true renaissance woman, Hetty throughout her life relished the intricacies of University studies by long distance, the art of weaving and etching, the flute and organ, chicken and rabbit farming and homesteading in the Caribou which included the skill of skinning a cougar. Her love of music, especially opera singers Beniamino Gigli and Jussi Bjorling passed on to her family. A Celebration of Life was held at the North Lonsdale United Church.

In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate a donation in Hetty’s name to the Margaret Fulton Centre in North Vancouver.
