Ida Schmidt passed away peacefully in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Saturday, May 28th, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Ida was born on May 4, 1916 at Stony Plain, Alberta. She was raised on a farm South of Stony Plain with her parents and six sisters and brothers. She was always a hard worker, but enjoyed family times of ice fishing and recently beachcombing on Vancouver Island with her daughter Shirley. She married Werner Schmidt at Stony Plain, where they farmed together South of Spruce Grove, A.B. and then Southwest of Stony Plain until 1965. They then moved to Vernon, B.C. in 1971. Werner and Ida moved to an acreage on Otter Lake at Armstrong, B.C., Ida is predeceased by her husband Werner in 1983; sister Frieda (Gabel) (l986) and brothers John Kuhl (1989), Emil Kuhl (1997), William Kuhl (2000), brother-in-law, Art Gabel (2000), all of Stony Plain. Ida is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Shirley (Bill) Kerr of Black Creek, B.C. (Vancouver Island) and son, Rodger (Elaine) Schmidt of Coldstream, B.C. and twin granddaughters, Paula Schmidt of Salmo, B.C. and Tracy Schmidt of Coldstream, B.C. Ida is further survived by cousins, nieces , nephews and extended family throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vernon, B.C. on Thursday, June 2nd 2005 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Roy White officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Ida may do so to the Charity of their choice.
