POGGEMILLER

JEAN ELEANOR (NICHOL), passed away peacefully with her husband and four children at her side on January 22, 2003. She had just celebrated her 74th birthday on January 14. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Arthur, daughter Barbara, son David (Dawn), daughter Kathryn (Brad) Shirley, daughter Sheila, eight beautiful grandchildren and two granddoggies. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy (Mel) Garbutt, brother Ian (Pat), brother-in-law Alvin (Star), and sister-in-law Marion (Norna) and their families. Born in Vancouver, she moved to Vernon with her family in 1946 and married Art September 22, 1949. While raising four children, Jean spent countless hours and years volunteering. Her generous time was dedicated to Swim Club, school band, Winter Carnival Queen’s Committee, Highland Dance committee, Meals on Wheels and The Canadian Cancer Society (Vernon and Victoria). She was very active in the Trinity United Church and gave of her time to CGIT, Camp Hurlburt, U.C.W. and sang in the choir. Music was another huge part of her life and besides singing in many choirs, she and her sister and two close friends entertained for many years as the Folk Song Four. Jean was a life long member of the Sons of Scotland in Vernon and Victoria, holding many offices including Chief. Art and Jean moved to Victoria in 1985 where she continued to give of her generous nature.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 at Trinity United Church in Vernon, B.C. Flowers gratefully declined, but donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the B.C. Cancer Agency Vancouver Island in Victoria would be greatly appreciated.
