JOAN SCHAFER

JOAN BERNADETTE SCHAFER (ZOLLER)

Born Nov. 29th, 1937 in Denzil, Saskatchewan. The Lord called her home on May 27th, 2003 in Pamparomas, Peru.

She walked with the Lord and joyfully gave her life in service of others. She loved and nurtured her children, their spouses and grandchildren and was most especially devoted to her husband Jack. She was an example of faith, hope and love to her family and to everyone she met.

She spent 29 years dedicated to St. James Catholic Parish in many different capacities including the Catholic Women’s League.

Joan saw each person as a precious child of God and delighted in serving those most in need in her community, and in the many countries she visited around the world. In the end she joyfully gave her life in serving the people of Peru.

She had a gift of warm hospitality, a spirit of adventure, and a great sense of humour. Her warm and welcoming embrace will be missed by us all.

She is survived by her loving husband Jack and children Garth Schafer (Cathy), Karen Schafer (Jim Hinton), Corinne Smith (Dan), Carla Smiley (William), Janice Bittante (Diego) and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by her ten sisters, four brothers and her mother Josephine Zoller.

The prayer service will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Coldstream at 7:30 PM Thursday, June 5th. The funeral service will be at Our Lady of the Valley at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 6th.
