John (Jack) Applegate passed away on July 10, 2017 at Hospice House. He is survived by his loving wife Joy of 55 years and his devoted daughter Kimberly and grandson Connor. Also survived by his younger brother Glenn (Bomber) Applegate, sisters Mary Applegate and Carol (Bob) Cryer. John is predeceased by his mother and father Myrtle and Stan Applegate, older brother Jim, and sister Grace. He is much loved by his many nieces and nephews. Jack was born on October 16, 1933 and grew up on the family farm near Alliston, Ontario during the dirty ‘30’s. He came West as a young man and met Joy. They were married in 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had one child, Kimberly Joy. In 1973 Jack moved his family to Prince George, BC and worked with BC Rail. Jack spent his summers fishing from his ever-bigger boats and tending his garden. He enjoyed many sports including cross country skiing, baseball, golf and curling. Jack’s appreciation of a well-formed speech made him a regular at Toastmasters. He won numerous National and International speech competitions. Jack and Joy retired to Vernon, BC in 2000 and easily slipped into the Okanagan lifestyle. Jack’s happiness reached a lifetime high 13 years ago when his grandson, Connor Jack, was born. From the moment Jack first held Connor a deep bond was formed that even death will not alter. Jack’s final job as a Grandpa is his most enduring legacy. He cannot be replaced and he is missed deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 22, 2017 at 1:00pm at Vernon’s First Baptist Church (1406 32nd Ave, Vernon, BC).
