KATHARINE “Kay” HARTSON

October 27 1917-

February 05 2004.

Kay started her life in Alberta, growing up in the Onaway, Stony Plain area. She grew up in a family of 13 children. She married Emil Kulak in Stony Plain. Shortly after marriage they moved to BC and farmed. During those years with Emil, they raised 3 children, Doris, Joyce and Doug. When the children were grown, Kay started working out side of the home. Kay worked in a restaurant, a spud nut shop and a packing house. She and Emil retired to Lumby. They would love to go camping and fishing. And they spent many hours with the grandchildren. After Emil’s death, Kay found Ivan Hartson. She moved to Castlegar, and they married. Kay became mom to Dwayne and Crystal. These years with Ivan, were pretty good, no children to raise, so they were free to travel, entertain, and be totally devoted to each other. Kay loved to do handiwork. She spent many happy hours quilting and doing other crafts. She loved to entertain, and cook. Playing cards was also a huge past time of hers. Kay was predeceased by her husband Emil Kulak, mother Margaretha, father Adolf and all of her brothers and sisters. Kay leaves behind husband Ivan, daughters Doris Winfrey (John) of Kelowna, Joyce Hoy, son Doug Kulak (Helen) of Vernon-step son Dwayne Hartson (Lorraine) Castlegar, step daughter Crystal Halhead (Rick) Calgary. 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends. A Memorial will be held in Vernon to be announced at a later date.
