Katherine Petrykiw

We regret to announce the death at The Gateby, on Saturday, October 20, 2007, of Katherine Petrykiw, at the age of 84 years. Katherine was born in 1923 in Lublynec-Staryl in the former Ukraine. At the age of 16, she was taken into forced labour by the German occupiers to work on a farm in Germany, and was there for 8 years. After the war, Katherine lived in a refugee camp until she came to Canada in 1949 to work on a farm as domestic help. She met and married her husband, Nick, in 1956. They owned and operated a motel until health reasons brought them to Vernon in 1973. Here they owned the Okanagan Landing Mobile Home Park until they retired in 1987. Katherine liked to read good books, crochet, fish and spend the winters in warmer climates. Prayers will be recited at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 24, at 7:00 P.M. and Funeral Services will be held there on Thursday, October 25, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas’ Catholic Cemetery in Coldstream. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Dignity Funeral Home. 542-0155
