Longtime Coldstream resident, KATHLEEN MARY COLLINS, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 26, 2005, in Vernon Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. Mary was born in Winnipeg on February 1, 1930. She was sadly predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom Collins in 1997. Mary is survived by her three children; Peter Collins of Vernon, Ann Collins of Half-Moon Bay, BC., and Vanneau Neesham of Vancouver; three grandchildren: Erin, Maurya and Sacha; and three great-grandchildren: Brittany, Austin, and Brolin. Mary grew up in Coldstream and attended Crofton House School in Vancouver. She was an accomplished horsewoman and was active in Okanagan Horse Shows throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s. For many years, she sang in the Vernon Ladies Choir and the choir at All Saints Anglican Church. Mary and Tom owned a beef and dairy farm in Lavington, where they spent many happy years. As a passionate birder, upon retirement, Mary and Tom traveled the world. She was a longtime member of NONCS. Mary will be remembered as a superb host and cook by her friends and family, who happily attended her many dinners and fabulous garden parties. Although in frail health for the past two years, Mary enjoyed a trip to Mexico last winter, accompanied by her devoted crew, Vanneau, Ann and Laura, where much champagne was downed to celebrate Mary’s “lifer”, spotted on a jungle river surrounded by crocodiles! Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 31, at 2:00 PM at All Saints’ Anglican Church, with Canon Dr.. Peter Davison officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Coldstream Cemetery. Many thanks to the wonderful care provided at Coldstream Meadows, Dr.. Hwang, Dr.. Armanious, and particularly to her longtime friend and physician, Dr.. Sharon Dougan, and the nursing staff of 3 West at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Bird on, beloved Mary and Tom… we love you!
