Kiyoshi “Chum” Kaneda
Chum Kaneda passed away peacefully at his home on March 15, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Chum was born in Vancouver on March 17, 1924. He was a veteran, serving during the Second World War in the Canadian military. Chum was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 63 years. He was a Past President of Branch 25; a former North Okanagan Zone Commander; and a former Executive Officer of Pacific Command. Chum was also a charter member of Morning Vernon Kiwanis Club; Past President of Vernon Minor Hockey Association and Past President of the Vernon Figure Skating Club. Chum will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Sue (nee Endo); and children: Sherri (Peter) Duggan of Calgary and granddaughter Courtney; Kelly (Pam) and grandchildren Madison, Spencer, and Andie; and Randy (Kate) and grandchildren Kiaria and Leonardo; and numerous extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Emi Isobe and brother Butch Kaneda. Honouring his wishes, there will be no public funeral service held. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home. 542-0155. In lieu of flowers or Koden, friends may make donations in memory of Chum to either the Baerg-McMurtry Cancer Clinic at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101 – 32 St., Vernon, V1T 5L2; or the Canadian Diabetic Assoc., Box 1301, Vernon, V1T 6N6.
